A Poitou Donkey MUST have this registration document. It is issued by Les Haras Nationaux in France, and every animal has to be blood-tested for purity before it is issued. Pure Poitou Donkeys are still very rare; even today rarer than Tigers or Giant Pandas, but there are a number of mongrel animals around. The breed has probably the longest lineage of any domesticated equine, and is an important part of the French national heritage. The approval and certification of animals for breeding is undertaken by the two French breed societies. All of the animals at Hamerton Donkey Stud have been chosen with the kind help of these two societies, in our efforts to help conserve the breed. 'Dakota' is our first foal from American National Champion 'Bramoth's Estiffanugla' by 'Jarratt's Mary-Ann' probably our best brood jenny. 38'5" at birth, he was 121cm at 121 days! - 12hh at 4 months.
