Jimmy and Jasper's move
Donkey welfare is at the heart of everything we do and we’re always looking at ways to improve the wellbeing of our donkeys, continuously reviewing the benefits that each shelter or barn provides for the donkeys living in it.
Jimmy and Jasper had previously made a temporary move to our reception area earlier this year, following an assessment of their individual needs at the time. Shelter 5 – recently vacated following the move of two mules, Jenny and Elmo, to Shelter 6 – has since been identified as the best current location for them.
After the completion of some necessary adjustments to the paddock area ahead of their arrival, Jimmy and Jasper made the exciting move in the first week of December.
They were joined by Jimmy’s long-time companion Skittles and Jasper’s friend Eric, who make up the group of four who now call Shelter 5 their home. As donkeys form extremely strong bonds, it is important that we make sure bonded pairs are always kept together.
Watch Jimmy and Jasper move to Shelter 5
At first, it can take a little time for donkeys to settle into their new surroundings, but our dedicated team are on hand to monitor and support the movers every step of the way.
Speaking about Jimmy and Jasper’s move, Laura Attwood, Farm Supervisor at our Sidmouth sanctuary, said:
“We’re delighted to share that Jimmy and Jasper have settled beautifully into their new home at Shelter 5. The move went incredibly smoothly, and they’ve already made themselves comfortable alongside their pals Skittles and Eric.
“The four of them are enjoying exploring their surroundings together and making friends with their new neighbours at Shelter 4. It’s lovely to see them so relaxed and content.”
The pair’s new home is not only great for Jimmy and Jasper, but also for visitors – Shelter 5 is located in the heart of the sanctuary and is more easily accessible for those wishing to come along and spot them in person.
Laura adds: “We can’t wait for Jimmy and Jasper’s adopters to visit and see how well they’re doing in their new home!”
